Quick i-cord question for you all

I am making a mitten with 12 rows of 2×2 ribbing. The cast-on edge is not as clean as I’d like it and was thinking about adding an applied i-cord to cover up the edge. Would that defeat the purpose of the ribbing or would it stretch along with it, at least enough to get my hand through?
